When combined, my cat’s collective name is Satan. I didn’t plan it that way. I named them Matan and Sinclair, and a college kid I mentored coined the name. I tell you this because, today’s post is about a guy who started a company to help cats like Satan (and dogs). Darryl Rawlings has a passion for pets, (get the tissue before you read his inspiration below) and he did something about it. #PurposeDrivenLeader #TheWorldisABetterPlace
Trupanion provides health insurance for pets. While that may seem like a niche business, the concept has taken off in recent years. As the cost of pet care grows, people need ways to pay for unexpected injuries or long-term illnesses. The Seattle company, which went public in July 2014, has grown to about 500 employees.TrupanionCEODarryl Rawlingsfounded the company in Canada in 1999 and moved the business to Seattle in 2005. He was named the Ernst & Young Pacific Northwest Entrepreneur of the Year in 2015.Read the full article on PSBJ.

After Trupanion denied my claim, I posted numerous warning reviews on Google and filed a complaint against Trupanion with the Department of Financial Services (DIFS). Trupanion filed FRAUD investigations against me with the Attorney General and the Michigan State Police. I was interrogated for over an hour in a police car. Karin Dickson, Compliance Mgr. told the state that I had fraudulently collected $3,500 by filing "refer a friend applications." My case was rejected by the Montcalm County prosecutor but neither the state nor the police would give me an unredacted copy of the fraudulent referral emails nor the bank account that the 3,500 was deposited into. Countless FOIA requests were denied. I spent hundreds of dollars to file a complaint in the MI Court of Claims and LOST because of a procedural error that I made while attempting to be a pro se litigant because I could not find a lawyer. Bottom line: The Trupanion Exam Day Offer is a SCAM--read the warning at the BBB. Even though Trupanion has been FINED in SEVERAL STATES the company continues illegal marketing tactics. Anyone who would like copies of my unredacted court documents and FOIA attempts can contact: trupanionscammedme@gmail.com

I’ve been paying 143 per month for 6 years. The one time I try to use my insurance YOU DO NOTHING!!! Because my deductible is $750. MY DOG IS DEAD AND YOUR COMPANY IS THERE TO MAKE IT WORSE!! DISGUSTING!!! How about you reimburse me all the money I’ve paid you over the years!!

Thanks Teri Citterman for sharing about Darryl start. Insurance is something we underestimate until we need it. Terrible feeling to choose to put down a pet because someone could not afford the surgery. Paws up to Trupanion!

Love the idea, have been a strong fan of pet insurance for YEARS! When Trupanion hit the scene here in Seattle, we made the switch from another provider. Wish I never had - clearly others are having success with Trupanion - Medical insurance for your pet - Interesting how reality can differ from customer-to-customer.
