Barnes is accused of setting fire to a Hines Street residence Nov. 26. He was arrested Dec.
iron a charge of capital murder in connection with the shooting death of Helen Bass. He was indicted Dec. 6 on that charge by the grand jury. A $25,000 bond was set on Barnes on the arson charge, but he remains in the Wichita County jail as bond was denied on the capital murder charge. According to the indictment, Barnes, of 1209 Williams, is charged with starting a fire and causing an explosion by "igniting a flammable substance with an open flame The grand jury also indicted Charles Ray Gatson, 34, on a charge of murder in connection with the shooting death of Kinny Sumlin, 26.
Sumlin was shot as he got out of his car on North Rosewood Avenue. Gatson, of 807 South Rosewood, was given a $20,000 bond. He was arrested after a two-hour standoff with police outside his house. Gatson is charged with shooting Sumlin once in the right chest cavity. grand jury returned two indictments on Bobby Pierson, 48, of Holliday, Texas, on charges of indecency with a child.
The indictments allege that the acts occured during the summer. Survivors include her husband; a son, Warren of Seymour; a stepson, Dale of Midland, Texas; her mother, Billie Jean DePauw of Texarkana; her father, Horace Tye of Waldo, two sisters, Vickie Qatato of Haltom City, Wanda McKinney of Clarksville, Texas; and a brother, Wayne Tye of Little Rock, Ark.
